Is there really something wrong with Tom Brady?

This year the New England Patriots have started the 2009 NFL season at 1-1…… so after just two weeks of football many people are writing Tom Brady and the Patriots off for the year. I know that the schedule is tough this year for the Pats including the 2-0 Atlanta Falcons coming to Gillette in what I would consider the game of the week.  Matt Ryan, is emerging as one of the most consistent QB’s in league and definitely someone to watch for many years to come. However if you look at a superstar QB that had a major injury and struggled when they came back, look no further than Peyton Manning last year. Through the first 8 weeks of the season the Colts were a dismal 3-4 (with a bye week in week 3) and Mannings’ stats were not Manning like at all (10 Td’s 9 ints).  From week 9 on Manning and the Colts went 9-0 and Peyton threw 17 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions. There are a not a lot of differences between the Colts of last year and the Patriots this year, they definitely rely on the passing game and the running aspect is average at best. The Patriots have a bye week in week 8 and would not be surprised to see them at 4-3….. possibly in 3rd place in the AFC East. I believe that Brady will be fine…….and once again the media will be praising him and everyone in New England can sleep easy once again.

Tiger….Tiger….Tiger

Coming into the BMW Championship there were some people who were questioning whether Tiger Woods had started to lose a little bit of his swagger, that sense of invincibility that Tiger has always had since he burst on to the tour more than 10 years ago. Well to all those people….. Tiger proved each and every one of those people wrong.  The opening weekend of the NFL season was on, but there was a part of me that couldn’t help but turn on NBC and watch Tiger dominate the field, and yes the word is dominate.Although this round was not all that impressive (a 3 under par 68) the shots that Tiger was able to pull off were surreal. There are many young talented players on the PGA Tour without a doubt, but the shot that Tiger pulled off on the par 5 9th hole was absolutely phenomenal, being able to hit a golf ball from behind a tree and leave the ball within 15 feet of the hole and then make the birdie……wow was the only word that came out of my mouth. I would say that 99% of the PGA tour players would have laid up and tried to get it close and try make a par putt… but then again 1% is equal to Tiger Woods. There was no Y.E. Yang on this day, this was the day that Tiger showed the aura that people thought he had lost…. was stronger than ever.

Today in College Football

First off let me say how excited I am about college football being back in full swing.

Today has two feature matchups that people will be watching for the BCS title picture. The first game this afternoon features the Notre Dame Fighting Irish taking on one of their biggest rivals the Michigan Wolverines. Last week Notre Dame looked amazing on offense and defense with Jimmy Clausen finally being the quarterback and leader that the Irish were looking for the past two seasons. With receivers like Golden Tate and Michael Floyd and shutting down a pretty good offense in Nevada it was definitely a strong opening game for the Irish. However tell me there isn’t a team in college football that doesn’t have more to prove than Rich Rodriguez and the Michigan Wolverines.  It’s tough to really take a whole lot out of a game against Western Michigan, other than Tim Taylor from Home Improvement going there that’s really all I can tell you about the college. Anytime you have to go into the “Big House” it is never an easy task especially when you play a tough, young, hungry team. I’m looking forward to seeing a hard hitting, high scoring very exciting game, however I think that the Irish’s experience will prevail in the end and Michigan will have to go back to the drawing board.

The later game tonight is definitely the game of the week featuring the USC Trojans vs the Ohio State Buckeyes, and trust me Ohio State needs to win this game. You’ve all heard the Ohio State “suckeyes” jokes, the comments about Jim Tressel’s sweater vests, if they want those to stop go out and beat a team like USC. If there was ever an opportunity to make a statement that the Big Ten is a power conference and not just another overhyped MAC conference this would be the time to show it. USC has a freshman QB leading them, they also lost a lot of key defensive players to the draft, for the first time in what seems to be an eternity the Trojans are a beatable team. Terrelle Prior needs to go out and be huge, throw the ball down the field, use your legs at a weapon and keep USC on their toes. Ohio State cannot go out on the field today in front of their home crowd and play like they did against Navy last week, if they do USC will go crazy and ESPN will be once again killing Ohio State and the Big Ten Conference and no one will be able to defend them, no pressure Ohio State you’re not only playing for your own pride, but also for your entire conference. There is no way I can pick against USC until Ohio State shows some heart and passion on the field….. all we as fans can hope for is a good game and that the Buckeyes will help save their conference.
